Voluntary Donation
We will be asking for a totally voluntary donation of R200 to any U3A branch. We suggest that you only make the donation when you are satisfied that this course will be of benefit to you. We will send out details of this donation after the first three or so sessions. No one will be excluded from the course in any way if they elect not to make the donation.
Format of the Course
The course consists of about 41 sessions on Zoom which will last about an hour each. To a large extent, the course will be a replication of the course given in 2025 with some enhancements and updating. Most sessions will consist of a fun video, followed by a PowerPoint presentation and, perhaps, some live screen sharing. The sessions will be held at 10:00 each Tuesday or Wednesday but on the third Tuesday of each month, there will be a U3A Johannesburg meeting in place of the course.
In 2025, we plan to introduce a second session on AI (Artificial Intelligence), have a session on “The Digital Life” (interconnection of computers in various devices) and also a session on Google Workspace.
The sessions will be recorded and a link to the recording and presentation material will be circulated after each session.
Presenters of the course
The main presenters of the course are Simon Griffiths, Robin Phillips and Andrew Pearce
Simon has over 30 years in technical, sales and marketing roles at local and international software companies. Simon worked in Johannesburg and Silicon Valley, at start-ups and established companies. Early social media user, one of the first 3000 people on Twitter.
Robin worked in the Computer Industry for 50 years installing large data centres and networks for corporate customers in Africa and the Middle East.
This included the installation of the fastest computer in Africa and involvement with the early stages of the Square Kilometre Array.
Andrew spent most of his career converting data into information that could be used to motivate performance. He has spent about half the time in line functions and half the time in consulting capacities both in South Africa and internationally.
Testimonials
At the end of the 2025 course, we asked for feedback on how to improve the course.

Thank you SO VERY MUCH for the course.
Sadly, due to an overload of stress and overwhelm this past year, I have not participated in the programme but have religiously kept all the lessons so that I can review them in 2026 which I hope will be a happier and healthier year for me.
The dedication of you and your team is inestimable – so very grateful!
Clem Goemans
Txs Andrew, Simon and Robin for all that hard work and so generously sharing your knowledge
Debbie Marais
I benefitted hugely from your workshops.
Thank you for your time and teaching.
Angela Butlion
Thanks so much. I have thoroughly enjoyed the course. My only regret is that I could not attend the Excel courses due to a religious holiday - it may be a good idea to factor religious holidays in in the future.
Erenst van Niekerk
Thanx alot for all the presentations. It covers all the various areas and we could view it any time. The preloads were
also excellent.

I would like to thank you and your co-presenters for another year full of surprises, lots of laughter and extremely instructive.
As social media is taking over our lives and is changing at a pace that one cannot keep up with, I would be so grateful if you can fit in one or more courses on how to take and render photo's.
As it was said, our phones are ready for action, everyday and every where... but I find storing space is a big headache.
So maybe the use of a memory stick?
Otherwise, on a Tuesday morning I just sit back and enjoy every single moment of the conversations.
I just love it when other participants ask questions which I would not even think of.
Judy Henry
thanks, once again for this course which I am sure benefitted many. Some of our newer members are asking if you will be repeating the course or where else can they access it. Could you let me know so that I can give them an answer?
Thanks again to your team - IF you do a re-run I am hoping to get more time to attend talks as we have extra help on our committee. Yeah!
Thanks once again and all best wishes for next year's U3A.

Thank you for this message and for all the weekly messages which kept us updated on details of the course.
I don’t feel qualified to make a worthwhile comment on the structure or content of the course as I have had to miss so many sessions. My plan is to listen to all the recordings so that I can make up the missed sessions. My two part-time jobs kept getting in the way on many Tuesdays. I hope I can manage the last few.
I do, however, wish to thank you, Simon and Robin for your generous sharing of skills and ideas. It has been very much appreciated.

I would like to sincerely thank you, Simon and Robin for an excellent series of presentations, which have all been valuable coverage of the ever increasing digital world we try to survive in. Unfortunately, I have not been able to participate, as I run a factory from my desk and there are forever interruptions and calls which I can’t ignore. I will be making a contribution to False Bay U3A.

I would like to thank you all very much for presenting the different aspects of computers and cellphones week after week as you have done this year. Although I am reasonably computer/cellphone savvy, I have certainly picked up lot of helpful tips along the way. I have also enjoyed the fun videos at the beginning of each lecture and go back to some of them now and then just for a good laugh, and I am looking forward to the remaining few lectures.
I will certainly be recommending to our members that they give your course a try next year.

I have really enjoyed the Tuesday sessions and benefitted greatly from them. It has given me more confidence about from the increased knowledge.
As I person you started late in life with even switching on a computer, I had an awful time for years, trying to get to the place where I had a workable knowledge for my business.
I am retired – now, but I still need my computer – and knowing short cuts and getting suggestions has improved my quality of life😂
Following you three gentlemen, has be such a pleasure. You are extremely practical, put it across in a way that people like me don’t feel silly or stupid, and I love the light-hearted introductions.
I have absolutely no negatives
It is possible |I may join again next year, because each time I will learn some thing more. I know we have the notes, which u are so diligent in suppling, but some how it feels like joining up with a family when I log in.
